On Thursday evening 3 October, Overstrand Executive Mayor Dudley Coetzee hosted the Mayoral Awards ceremony to honour those residents and organisations who have excelled in their service delivery to the local municipality and community in various ways, from implementing disaster risk or crime prevention to job creation – they have flourished to uplift and improve the standard of lives across their communities.

“We are so inspired by the dedication and selfless commitment shown to their causes by all the individuals and organisations nominated,” said the mayor. “Each of our nominees is a real gem,” said Coetzee. “If you take a look at the good work you have accomplished, the people you’ve supported and the causes you’ve furthered – don’t you think that’s just the kind of contribution that deserves to be rewarded and applauded?”

Special recognition was given in 11 categories from humanitarian aid to business, entrepreneurship, youth development, tourism and conservation. Coetzee noted that it was encouraging to see how nominees take ownership of the challenges faced by their communities and offer support without expecting recognition.

“These individuals and organisations help create a stronger sense of cohesion within the Overstrand. They create jobs, feed families, give children a sense of pride, provide life skills and enhance our communities. I hope the acknowledgment of their efforts through the Mayoral Awards will serve to inspire them and others to continue to uplift others,” he concluded.
